On Hydra, the morning arrives without engines. There are no cars on the island — only the click of a donkey's hoof on stone, a fisherman folding nets at the port, and the silver light the Aegean keeps for its first hour. You step from a whitewashed room onto a terrace still cool from the night. The long set moves with you in 22 momme — collar notched the old way, mother-of-pearl buttons that have already taken on the colour of the sea, trousers that fall straight from the hip and pool a little at the ankle. A bell from Profitis Ilias above the town. Coffee somewhere, cardamom in it. The silk is the temperature of the air; you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. You sit. You don't speak yet.

Care
Hand wash cold with a pH-neutral silk detergent. Roll between towels to absorb water; do not wring. Dry flat in shade. A cool iron on the reverse will restore the line of the collar.
