A good silk pyjama set is the kind of thing you reach for every night for years. But "silk sleepwear" covers everything from €30 polyester satin to genuine 22-momme mulberry silk — and the style, weight and fit make all the difference between something you tolerate and something you love. Here's how to choose well.
Why silk makes the best sleepwear
Mulberry silk is breathable and temperature-regulating: it keeps you cool on warm nights and cosy on cold ones, so you wake less. It's gentle on skin and hair, naturally hypoallergenic, and feels weightless — the opposite of clingy synthetics that trap heat.
Choosing your style
Slip dress — light and elegant, ideal for warm sleepers and summer. Short set (shirt + shorts) — relaxed and cool, great for summer. Long set (shirt + trousers) — the year-round classic, especially in cooler months. Robe — to wear over any of the above, morning and evening.
What momme to look for
Momme measures the weight and density of the silk. For sleepwear, 19 to 25 momme is the sweet spot — substantial enough to drape beautifully and last, light enough to stay breathable. We weave everything at 22 momme, Grade 6A.
Getting the fit right
Silk drapes rather than stretches, so a relaxed, true-to-size fit is most flattering. Bias-cut pieces skim the body; sets should feel easy at the shoulder and hip. If you're between sizes, size up for a more fluid drape.
Caring for silk pyjamas
Hand-wash (or use a delicate cold cycle in a mesh bag) with a pH-neutral detergent, never bleach, and dry flat away from direct sun. Done right, silk lasts for years.
